I don't think that you're a schmuck if you make a contribution to something you believe in. Intangibles can be worth a lot. John Cole used to talk about making another small-dollar contribution every time Hillary said something obnoxious, which helped him get over his mad. Seems way healthier than going to Vegas, to me anyway.
And in any case, cutting the fat cats out of the loop is a big step in the right direction for restoring democracy. I think it's crazy to spend a billion dollars for a presidential campaign, but as long as that's the reality, I'm much happier that it's coming from millions of people. Essentially, it's a publicly financed campaign, which is what it would be in an ideal world.
