Gratefully
Yesterday, my wife and I spent an oxygen-deprived breakfast and a 3-hour hike on the summit of White Mountain awaiting the conclusion of the family ceremony. Except for a last moment twinge of conscience, where my wife almost seemed to apologize, she got what she wanted. Next holiday, all the children will assist our mother preparing for the ceremony and meal. We stayed up last night sealing the deal over Spanish white wine (a gift from my youngest brother-in-law's girlfriend), Korean raspberry wine, beer, pistachios, cheese and crackers, and grapes. No, this isn't the usual fare, just my brother-in-law's way to honor me.
And then, today we all went to a grilled beef restaurant. It was strange, but I just asked for an order of beef without the teriyaki-style sauce, and I caused my brother-in-law and his wife to switch from what the rest of the family was eating to my side of the table. We ate more of the «no-taste» beef than they could eat, and they were still scrambling to consume their portions. It was like a contest, in which they refused to eat ours and we liked our beef too much to help them. In the end, my one order became nine helpings to their eight.
That's what happens when your daughter marries an American!
