Ehh, What's Up, Beijing?
Is the source of a Communist ban on western cartoons generic protectionism, full-blown xenophobia, or perhaps geriatric omniphobia? Sure, Bugs Bunny is "…a demon porn star who appears in the porn flic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of porn films produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons." (a description which deserves its own blog). But, seriously, Scooby-Doo?
Despite embracing foreign economic models, the nation's communist rulers remain wary of international spiritual pollution and consequently the state-controlled television stations generally do not pick up Western shows.
There's another sentence worthy of its own blog! What kind of "spiritual pollution" (if indeed that's possible) could that mean? Criticizing authority? Laughing? Cross-dressing? Some of these cartoons might be not make immediate sense to Chinese kids and adults, but they're also an easy way to understand Americans.
The Chinese people need younger leaders!
